Moving Soon? Cut Costs with These Tips!
Nobody likes moving. It’s stressful, time-consuming and the costs can add up quickly! But with a little planning, you can easily save a few bucks here and there.
If you’re looking to move soon and want to cut down on costs, follow these tips!
- Ask around for free boxes before you choose to buy any. Buying boxes from the store isn’t cheap. But grocery stores, schools, offices and even your friends or community groups often have boxes lying around that they want to get rid of. Ask around and you may just get what you need at no cost!
- If you’re using movers, choose to move at an “off” time. During busy moving times, like late spring and summer, the cost of professional movers can be more expensive. Save a few bucks by waiting to move mid-week during the fall or winter.
- Ask your friends and family for help. Moving by yourself can be difficult – but if some kind friends and family will volunteer their time, the process can be a breeze. Especially if you reward them with a few pizzas for their hard work!
- Get rid of some clutter before packing. Getting rid of unnecessary furniture, clothing or various junk will make for a lighter move, which will save costs if you use a moving company. If you take the DIY approach, you’ll be saving by using fewer boxes.
- Create a moving budget. Sit down and take stock of what you’ll need to pull off your move. Create a moving checklist with a budget – and stick to it! This will keep you from mindlessly spending on unexpected expenses that pop up along the way.
